That analysis was designed to estimate the probability of contact with intelligent life. That imposes certain temporal and technological restrictions that I mention, but do not include in my numbers.

I recall seeing a formula somewhere to come to a conclusion in this area. It’s apparently (in)famous. Also apparent is that it uses variable that are ultimately pretty subjective.
