Wow!!!! This clip was an eye opener in my young life!! New ideas and many new thoughts are running though my mind…. In a way it kinda hurt my head. I never thought that so many people believed in so many stupid ideas. And to think of how many of the stupid ideas are out there. Any way i really think that this clip was right on!! ^-^
Gwennifer! How great of you to comment! I’m glad you liked it.
Sid One show like this can immunize a person against nonsense for a long time. When viewed through the lense of critical thinking however it turns out almost everything is baloney.
From the lies politicians tell us to mutual fund salesmen to cigarette ads and virtually every commercial in any media it seems all we get is bull…. and if we go to the people with so called higher authority the clergymen of all stripes for guidance it turns out they are the biggest frauds of all!I can see how cynicism once rooted keeps on growing because there is fertile ground everywhere.
Now imagine living in a counry where there are some very real and sometimes deadly consequences for not buying the party line and you have a true self perpetuating nightmare.
Some of those pictures I don’t understand. Is organic food not good for you? I understand that the supplement craze is OTT, but some of those things (like Omega 3’s) are good for you. Granted you should get them from a natural diet, but most people don’t, so supplements can serve a purpose.
Also his statement “Science never suppresses good science.” is a bit … glib? Science doesn’t do anything. Scientists, being human, can do any number of silly or irrational things.
Otherwise this was a good short film. I need to subscribe to this gent’s podcast for sure.
Organic food is in the video because it is misunderstood by the public. What is permitted to be labeled ‘organic’ by law is far from what people’s expectations are. Omnivore’s Dilemma is a great read for that and many other food-related information.
I wondered about the Omega 3’s myself. From what I know, there are one of the few truly beneficial supplements.
“Science never suppresses good science” is a bit glib. Science is a human construction and is thus subject to errors. The point, though is that we constructed science in such a way as to minimize those errors. The whole point of the scientific method is to separate what is true from what we want to be true. Evidence is the final arbiter.
