“What now?”
That’s this weeks question. It was also the question John Brockman asked for the World Question Center immediately after the September 11th attacks.
Sadly, we already know the answer given that context. The attack was used as a pretext for a war we are still fighting. Now what? Now we bomb the shit out of people who had nothing to do with it! Now there have been over 4,000 dead U.S. soldiers and at least ten times that amount in Iraqi civilian deaths. Now we have spent…
…on the war.
Since the original question has already been answered in the context in which it was asked, we must put it into a new context - today’s context. Since no major world event has occurred recently, this question is wildly open-ended. Answer anyway you like! My answer appears in the permalink.

This week’s “question mark” (and variants) search stats:
Year-to-date: over 950
Last week: 159 (it slowed down this week!)
Strangest in the last week: “burning question mark”
So when you have a burning question, it gets its own punctuation symbol?

I decided to answer at the personal level.
Now I’m going to start focusing more on music. I recently purchased some equipment to record my drums and signed up for drum lessons. This will be the first time that I’ve ever tried any real drum recording. Up till now, I’ve always sequenced synthesized drum sounds. I even think that I got pretty decent at it. Still, there are certain types of songs that require real drums. Those also happen to be the type of songs chodeli likes to write. He has some great stuff that is begging for some live drums. I’ll see if I can’t deliver.
I’m also hoping to publish some musical shorts on my blog in the coming weeks. The first won’t be a short, but a full song that I wrote and recorded a few years back. The second will be for one of Scott’s projects. I also have three shorts I recorded earlier this year that I might share. The real fun, though, will be composing and recording new songs. One of my recent purchases was for some recording and editing software I’ve been wanting for quite some time.
Lastly, I’m going to start including more music related content on the blog. I want to start reviewing more music, both old and new, and share some of my favorites.
What now for you?

Geopolitically: We tell Robert Mugabe to shove off. I’ve followed events in Zimbabwe for over a year now, and I’ve been nothing but furious since March.
Personally: I finish the Critique of Pure Reason. It will take a while. It will also kill my soul and my free time, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Mugabe pissed me off years ago when he killed his own country by kicking white farmers off of their land. Zimbabwe when from the bread basket of the region to starvation in a single year. Now he’s just a despot being a despot.
I wonder why Bush didn’t ’spread freedom’ to their country…
I didn’t find out about Mugabe until I one day saw pictures of his rival Tsvangirai in a wheelchair from the beating he took. People like him are the reason international relations is not what it could be. With Mugabe it’s not just that he doesn’t listen, he moons the world while giving the finger at the same time. And he is allowed to do so, apparently. In a way he reveals what the flaws are in the international system. If he is being allowed to do what he is doing, it shows where the world system is currently insufficient to step up and should be improved. After all, what should a body like the UN or AU be able to do when a group or government just says no? This type of situation forces the question upon us.
Mugabe just goes to show there are two types of truth in the world. The real objective truth and the truth of the truncheon. The name for each should explain their definition. Many people around the world watched what happened in Zimbabwe and my prediction is it will be a template for many more elections in africa. The response from South Africa was very chilling and with the exception of one statement there was virtually zero criticism by nelson mandella.White people in S.A they will do to you what was done to the Europeans In Zimbabwe.
